Communications Analyst

Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to provide support services to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Bureau of Legislative and Public Affairs (LPA) in Washington D.C. Will help with efforts across, up to, 7 different offices within the LPA through administrative, programmatic, and technical support that will supply services to support LPA in accomplishing Agency priorities.

Located: Washington D.C. area

Education: Bachelor's Degree Required

Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance

Other Qualifications:

  • Direct experience working on events for the US Government, foreign governments and international organizations. Direct international experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling matters related to protocol, etiquette and diplomatic relations for US Government, foreign government and international organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide protocol, etiquette and special event training programs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reports to the Office of Strategic Communications in executing duties and responsibilities as related to program efforts, speaking engagements and special events.
  • Under the direction of the Division Chief, serves as a Public Affairs resource for the assigned Agency organizations, providing counsel and representation across the spectrum of public relations responsibilities and opportunities. Works closely with assigned Agency bureau staff and counterpart Congressional Liaison and Press officers to ensure consistency of message and unity of purpose with regard to the Agency's outreach to the American public at large, as well as the specific external sectors noted above.
  • Serves as a Strategic Communications (SC) lead on in-person and virtual events, working closely with other members of the team and groups across the Agency hosting engagements with USAID staff.
  • Manages all aspects of SC events including project/event conceptualization, plan development, logistics, and coordination with relevant participants and venues.
  • Advises management of requirements for potential programs and makes recommendations for program efforts. Assesses program areas for current and future trends, and recommends programs to fit projected trends.
  • Researches and identifies key public groups as well as key target publications, particularly those interested in or affected by the U.S. foreign assistance program globally, both those located across the nation and within the Washington area, which should be made aware of Agency policies and programs. Maintains up-to-date records on these organizations and publications, including reports on USAID speakers who have addressed these groups or articles that have appeared, special mailings that have been made, and background information.
  • The incumbent drafts informational letters for selected domestic audiences to educate them about various aspects of U.S. foreign assistance.
  • The incumbent suggests special events that should be undertaken by the Agency.
  • Coordinates with high-level speakers and support staff.
